with Hollywood Screenwriter Max Myers
The gift of creation is truly a wondrous thing. To be able to affect human emotion through art, be it written, painted, filmed, acted, sung, played or danced is something not to be taken lightly. For only through art can one positively affect humankind.
Although this class covers the very format specific screenwriting, it is still fundamentally writing. Story telling within the confine of what has come to be the accepted industry standard; the three act structure.
Do not consider yourself to be just a “screenwriter” but rather, a filmmaker. In understanding that your literature is the seed from which all things grow, train yourself to comprehend this visual medium from the actors and the director’s point of view. Why? Because this will most definitely help you in comprehending the most basic and yet often ignored principle of writing for film:
NEVER say it, if you can show it and NEVER, EVER, say it and show it at the same time.
Following, is a list of some of the topics we will cover:
- The basics of screenwriting.
- Plot points and their significance.
- Inciting incident of each of the 3 Acts.
- Mid point transition of each Act.
- Climax of each Act in order to transition in the next.
- Initiating story ideas.
- Pitching screenplays.
Extended personalized one-on-one sessions are available and can be continued via Skype.
Finally, please be aware that the class is a safe environment. No matter how insignificant you feel the question might be, ask it anyway. Chances are we’ll both learn something. I truly look forward to meeting you and taking the creative journey together.
